Crafty Dog Books: True Tales of Greyhound Rescue and Children’s Stories with a Greyhound Hero
Crafty Dog Books grew from our experience of adopting and fostering rescued greyhounds. Our journey began with Sally, our first rescue, followed by Sammy, a gentle black greyhound. Later, we fostered dogs needing support before moving into their forever homes. These experiences inspired our first book, A Hound in the House, which shares our introduction to the world of rescued ex-racing greyhounds.
Penny, our next greyhound, was an ex-racer abandoned at the end of her racing career. Beautiful and resilient, she became a favourite at our greyhound talks and craft fairs, where people quickly warmed to her character and charm. Her wit, personality, and enthusiasm for food also won her many admirers on Facebook. Her story later became Found a Penny: The Memoirs of a Crafty Dog.
We also wanted to help children discover the appeal of greyhounds and other sighthounds, which led us to create Rubbish, a young greyhound whose journey is one of courage, belonging, and self-discovery. Alongside Finn the deerhound, inspired by a real dog, he learns his true worth and becomes a hero. Rubbish’s story begins in The Largest Rabbit and continues in The Winter Hare, where he and Finn help a mysterious white hare with ancient magic.
